Sensor Integrity

Confidence that sensor data is accurate, untampered, and suitable for operational decisions.

Sensor integrity is the confidence that readings from a sensor are accurate, complete, and untampered with. In industrial and OT environments, those readings drive alarms, anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and sometimes automated control actions. If the data is wrong, every decision built on it can be wrong too.

Cyber attackers may target sensor integrity by spoofing signals, replaying old values, manipulating calibration, jamming communications, or compromising edge devices that collect telemetry. The result can be missed faults, false alarms, unsafe process changes, or degraded model performance. Defenders protect sensor integrity by authenticating devices and data, checking for drift and impossible values, comparing multiple sources, securing update paths, and designing fail-safe fallback logic when readings cannot be trusted.
