RSFN

The financial communications network used to carry authorized traffic in Brazil's financial system.

RSFN is Brazil’s financial communications network for carrying authorized traffic between institutions in the national financial system. It is not a payment product itself; it is the trusted messaging layer that helps move instructions, confirmations, and other sensitive operational data between banks, processors, and related infrastructure.

In cyber security, RSFN matters because compromise of this trusted channel can be more damaging than a noisy malware infection. If attackers obtain valid credentials, tokens, or privileged access to systems that interface with RSFN, they may be able to submit fraudulent instructions or manipulate payment workflows while appearing legitimate. Defenders should treat RSFN-connected systems as critical assets, with strong segmentation, strict identity controls, transaction monitoring, and tamper-resistant logging. Security teams should also watch for unusual bursts of authorized-looking traffic, changes to approval paths, and access from unexpected endpoints. In short, RSFN abuse is a control-plane risk: the attacker is trying to use the system’s own trust to move money or alter financial operations.
