A report view is a formatted presentation layer that turns raw data into a cleaner, easier-to-read summary. In tools like spreadsheets, dashboards, or security consoles, it can combine numbers, charts, and highlights into a single output that updates as the source data changes. The key security point is that a report view is derived content, not the source of truth.
That matters because attackers can exploit the gap between presentation and data. If the underlying workbook, log feed, or database is tampered with, the report view may still look polished and convincing. Defenders use report views to spot trends quickly, but they should still verify the source data, permissions, and refresh behavior. In practice, report views are useful for monitoring and decision-making, but they also create a trust boundary: users must know what was calculated, what was summarized, and what can still be changed upstream.
