Replication Receiver

A backup-related component that handles replication traffic and management functions.

A replication receiver is a backup-system component that accepts replicated data from another server and may also handle related management tasks, such as session setup, status reporting, or policy coordination. In practice, it sits on the receiving side of backup synchronization, where it ingests copies of files, images, or configuration data so they can be restored later if the primary system fails.

Security matters because this component often processes network traffic from trusted peers and may run with high privileges. If it is exposed to untrusted networks or implemented with weak authentication, attackers can abuse it to alter replication traffic, bypass access controls, or trigger command execution through vulnerable management paths. Defenders should restrict access to replication ports and APIs, patch the platform quickly, and monitor for unusual requests, child processes, or unexpected changes to backup jobs and stored copies.
