A remote-support gateway is a platform that brokers helpdesk or vendor access to managed systems from a distance. It sits between technicians and the assets they support, handling authentication, session setup, logging, and often policy checks before access is allowed.
Because it sits in the management path, this kind of system is highly sensitive. If attackers compromise it, they may gain a trusted route to servers, endpoints, or industrial devices without touching each target directly. Defenders therefore treat it like part of the control plane: keep it patched, restrict who can reach it, enforce strong MFA and least privilege, segment it from general user traffic, and monitor for unusual logins, session creation, or configuration changes. In practice, remote-support gateways are both valuable for secure operations and attractive targets for privilege escalation and lateral movement.
