A Remote Access SSL VPN is a virtual private network service that allows users outside the organization to connect securely to internal resources through an encrypted session. The “SSL” label is often used broadly for TLS-based VPN portals and tunnels. These services usually authenticate users with passwords, certificates, or multifactor authentication, then create a protected path into the network through an internet-facing appliance or gateway.
In cyber security, Remote Access SSL VPN is a high-value target because it sits at the perimeter and is reachable from the public internet. Attackers may probe it for weak credentials, exposed management interfaces, or software flaws that can lead to data theft, unauthorized access, or denial of service. Defenders treat it as critical infrastructure: keep it patched, limit exposure, enforce MFA, monitor logins and crashes, and disable unused VPN features to reduce the attack surface.
