Regulatory coordination is the alignment of laws, regulations, and internal policies so they do not conflict. In cyber security, it matters because security teams often have to satisfy overlapping requirements from national law, sector rules, privacy rules, and technical standards. If those layers disagree, organizations can end up with gaps in monitoring, retention, access control, or reporting responsibilities.
In practice, weak coordination shows up when a company deploys a security tool that collects more data than privacy law allows, or when incident reporting deadlines differ across jurisdictions. Attackers benefit from that confusion because unclear rules slow response and create inconsistent defenses. Good coordination helps defenders build controls once and apply them consistently: shared logging policies, clear escalation paths, and compliance reviews that map one control to several obligations. It is a governance control as much as a legal one, and it reduces both operational risk and exposure during incidents.
