Refresh

The process of updating output when underlying data changes.

In cybersecurity and data systems, a refresh is the process of updating an output, dashboard, report, or cached view when the underlying data changes. The refreshed result may be generated automatically on a schedule, on demand, or in real time. In tools like spreadsheet reports, a refresh can make a derived view look current even though it is only as reliable as the source data beneath it.

Refresh matters because attackers often target the inputs, not the finished output. If source data is altered, poisoned, or pulled from a compromised account, the refreshed view can spread false or misleading information with a polished appearance. Defenders use refresh controls, validation, access checks, and version review to reduce that risk. Good security practice treats refreshed output as derivative evidence, not ground truth.
