Red-team testing is a controlled exercise in which defenders actively try to break a system, misuse it, or make it behave unsafely. In cyber security, the goal is to think like an attacker: probe for weak authentication, excessive permissions, poor input handling, exposed tools, and unexpected actions that normal testing may miss.
This matters because modern systems, especially AI services and cloud-connected tools, can fail in ways that are hard to predict. A red team may test whether a model can be tricked into revealing sensitive data, launching prohibited actions, or calling external APIs outside policy. The results help teams add guardrails such as sandboxing, logging, rate limits, approval steps, and safer defaults. Done well, red-team testing turns unknown attack paths into concrete fixes before real attackers find them.
