A reboot issue is a failure that makes a device restart unexpectedly, or get stuck in a repeated restart loop. It can be caused by a bad system update, a faulty driver, unstable firmware, or a crash in a core service. On phones, repeated reboots can make the device hard to use and may prevent normal access to settings, apps, or security controls.
In cyber security, reboot issues matter because they can indicate low-level instability in the operating system or hardware stack, not just a minor bug. Attackers may try to trigger crashes or boot loops to disrupt availability, while defenders watch for them as signs of broken updates, malicious tampering, or weak device health. During testing and patching, engineers use reboot failures as a key signal that a build needs more hardening before wider release.
