Readiness

The practical ability to execute a response plan effectively when an attack is underway.

Readiness is the practical ability to carry out a response plan effectively while an attack is happening. It goes beyond having policies, tools, or staff on paper; it means the organization can make decisions, coordinate teams, and use its security controls under pressure.

In cyber security, readiness matters because incidents move fast. If logs are fragmented, roles are unclear, or executives are not aligned, responders can waste time, miss containment opportunities, and increase business impact. Strong readiness is built through exercises, clear escalation paths, tested communication, and shared visibility across security, IT, legal, and leadership. Attackers benefit when response is slow or disorganized, while defenders reduce damage when they can act as one unit.
