RAL is a standardized color system used to identify specific paint shades. Instead of describing a color loosely, RAL assigns a reference code to a known color sample, which makes matching more consistent across tools, suppliers, and inspection workflows. In practice, it is a shared “codebook” for color.
In cyber security, RAL matters wherever physical hardware must be identified, documented, or checked for tampering. Security teams may use it when verifying enclosures, labels, or painted surfaces on devices, and forensic analysts may compare observed colors against a standard reference. The same idea appears in measurement tools: a colorimeter must map sensor readings to a reference set such as RAL, so calibration and reference data strongly affect the result. If that mapping is wrong or altered, the output can mislead operators even when the sensor is working correctly.
