Rack-scale AI

A design approach that treats compute, power, networking, and cooling as one integrated rack-level system.

Rack-scale AI is a design approach that treats a full server rack as the unit of engineering, integrating compute, power delivery, networking, and cooling instead of planning each part separately. In dense AI environments, this matters because the rack is where heat, electricity, and data flow meet.

For cyber security, rack-scale AI changes how defenders think about availability and resilience. If cooling, power, or telemetry fail, training jobs can throttle, inference can slow, and monitoring tools can lose capacity exactly when they are needed most. Defenders use rack-level sensors, flow and temperature alarms, and maintenance runbooks to spot faults early and contain failures. Attackers may try to abuse these dependencies indirectly through sustained load, misconfiguration, or disruption of facility services, turning physical constraints into denial-of-service conditions.
