Quality

The degree to which a product or process meets expected standards and requirements.

Quality is the degree to which a product, process, or control meets expected standards and requirements. In cyber security, quality is not just about how well something works in normal use; it is about whether it behaves predictably, consistently, and safely under pressure.

Quality matters because weak controls create gaps that attackers can exploit. Poor code quality can introduce bugs and vulnerabilities. Low-quality logs or alerts can hide intrusion signals. Inaccurate inventories, bad configuration data, or inconsistent patching can leave systems exposed. Defenders improve quality through secure development practices, testing, code review, validation, monitoring, and change control. In practice, quality is a security control multiplier: when the underlying product or process is reliable, detection is clearer, response is faster, and the chance of avoidable failure is lower.
