Proofs

claimed evidence that still needs verification before it is treated as real.

In cybercrime posts, proofs are claimed evidence meant to convince victims, researchers, or the public that an intrusion really happened. They can include screenshots, file samples, directory listings, chat logs, or small data excerpts. The key point is that these items are assertions until they are independently verified.

Proofs matter because extortion groups often use them to increase pressure and force a response before defenders know the full facts. A convincing proof can suggest data theft, internal access, or system compromise, but it may be partial, misleading, or fabricated. Security teams should treat proofs as leads: preserve logs, compare claims with telemetry, validate timestamps and file origin, and separate unverified attacker messaging from confirmed incident evidence.
