Plasma

ionized matter made of charged particles that responds strongly to magnetic fields.

Plasma is an ionized state of matter made of free electrons and ions, rather than neutral atoms. Because its particles carry charge, plasma responds strongly to electric and magnetic fields, which makes it behave differently from ordinary gases. In stars, lightning, and laboratory devices, plasma can move, heat, and swirl in complex ways.

For security work, plasma matters because charged, space-based plasma can disturb satellites, radio links, GPS, and other infrastructure that digital systems rely on. Those disruptions can weaken communications, degrade timing, and complicate monitoring. Defenders track space weather and magnetic activity to anticipate these effects, while attackers may benefit indirectly when environmental noise masks signals or reduces the reliability of remote systems.
