Per-service access is a remote access model that lets a user reach only specific applications, APIs, or internal services instead of joining the whole network. It is often implemented with identity-aware proxies, zero trust gateways, or VPN tools that route access by policy rather than by subnet.
This matters because it reduces the blast radius of compromise. If an attacker steals a password, infects a laptop, or hijacks a session, they may only reach the approved service set rather than file shares, admin panels, and other internal systems. Defenders use per-service access to enforce least privilege, log service-level activity more clearly, and separate access for different teams or roles. In practice, it appears when companies replace broad network VPNs with app-specific access rules for email, dashboards, or internal tools.
