Org-mode

A plain-text markup system with document structure, metadata, and include-style features.

Org-mode is a plain-text markup format for structured documents. It supports headings, metadata, links, tables, and include-style directives that let one document pull in content from another file. Because it is text-based, it is easy to edit, version, and process automatically.

In cyber security, Org-mode matters when untrusted content is rendered on a server. Features that resolve includes or references can be abused if path handling is too broad, turning a document preview into a local file disclosure or path traversal issue. Defenders should treat Org-mode parsers as security-sensitive code: restrict file access, sandbox rendering, disable features not needed for public content, and ensure the process runs with least privilege. The risk is not the format itself, but how a parser interprets it.
