A Nuclei template is a reusable scanner rule used by the Nuclei security scanner to test for a known vulnerability pattern. It defines what request to send, what response to expect, and what indicators prove a target is likely affected. Templates can check for exposed panels, misconfigurations, weak authentication, and common exploits such as command injection or remote code execution.
In cyber security, templates matter because they let defenders and attackers verify exposure quickly and at scale. Security teams use them to inventory vulnerable assets and confirm that patches worked. Attackers use the same idea to probe large internet-facing device sets for an easy foothold. When a template matches a response, it does not always prove compromise, but it does show that the target behaves like a vulnerable system and deserves immediate review. That makes template-driven probing a common early signal of active scanning against old flaws.
