A notebook is a laptop computer used in workshops, labs, and field work for hands-on technical exercises. In cybersecurity, notebooks are often the portable workstations where participants run virtual machines, security tools, browsers, packet analyzers, and scripts during practice sessions or CTFs.
Notebooks matter because practical security work depends on mobility and a controlled environment. Defenders use them for incident triage, malware analysis in isolated labs, OSINT collection, and wireless testing. Attackers also rely on notebooks as flexible platforms for reconnaissance, payload testing, and remote access. Because they travel easily, notebooks can be exposed to theft, untrusted networks, or accidental data leakage, so full-disk encryption, strong authentication, and careful lab isolation are important protections.
