Nexus switches are Cisco data center switches built for high-throughput, low-latency traffic in fabric environments. They often sit in the core of a network, connecting servers, storage, firewalls, and other infrastructure components that must move large volumes of traffic reliably.
In cyber security, Nexus switches matter because they are part of the management plane as well as the data plane. If an attacker exploits a flaw in the switch operating system, they may be able to alter configuration, intercept or disrupt traffic, or gain privileged control over a device that many other systems depend on. Defenders treat these platforms as critical assets: they inventory models and software versions, apply vendor patches quickly, restrict administrative access, and monitor for unauthorized configuration changes or abnormal control-plane activity.
