Neural interface

A system that connects biological signals to software or hardware inputs.

A neural interface is a system that maps biological signals, such as brain or muscle activity, to software or hardware inputs. It is used in brain-computer interfaces, accessibility tools, prosthetics, and experimental control systems, where measured signals are translated into a command, cursor movement, or device action.

In cyber security, neural interfaces matter because they create a new input path that can be spoofed, overloaded, or misinterpreted. If the signal source is weakly authenticated, an attacker may inject false commands, replay recorded patterns, or exploit unsafe automation. Defenders reduce risk by validating signal provenance, limiting what a neural input can control, isolating critical functions, and requiring confirmation for sensitive actions. The key security idea is that a biological signal is still an input, and every input needs trust boundaries.
