Multiyear contract

An agreement that extends over several years and can improve revenue predictability.

A multiyear contract is an agreement that lasts for several years instead of renewing month by month or annually. In cyber security, these contracts are common for managed security services, cloud platforms, endpoint protection, and threat intelligence feeds because they give both sides predictable costs, service levels, and planning horizons.

They matter because security is operationally continuous: patching, monitoring, incident response, and compliance do not stop at the end of a quarter. Long contracts can help defenders lock in support, staffing, and renewal budgets, but they can also create vendor lock-in if the product becomes outdated or too slow to adapt. Good cyber contracts include clear SLAs, audit rights, breach-notification terms, patch expectations, and exit clauses. Attackers may benefit when organizations stay tied to weak tools or delay replacing insecure platforms, so regular contract reviews are part of sound security governance.
