Monitoring Platform

Software used to observe systems, networks, and service health from a central interface.

A monitoring platform is software that collects and presents status data from servers, applications, networks, and other infrastructure in one central interface. It helps operators see alerts, performance trends, and service health, and it often supports administrative actions such as changing thresholds, acknowledging incidents, or reviewing logs. Because it sits at the center of visibility, the platform usually has privileged access and trusted user sessions.

In cyber security, that trust makes monitoring platforms high-value targets. If an attacker can bypass authentication, abuse a web flaw, or tamper with the interface, they may gain sensitive operational data or disrupt incident response without touching every system directly. Defenders therefore treat these tools as part of the attack surface, not just as dashboards. Strong patching, restricted admin access, multi-factor authentication, and careful segmentation help reduce the risk that a compromise in the monitoring layer can affect the rest of the environment.
