Moderation screening

Automated review used to inspect ads or links before they are approved.

Moderation screening is automated review that inspects ads, URLs, or other submitted content before it is approved for display. The system may check the destination domain, redirect behavior, page content, reputation signals, and policy keywords to decide whether a link looks safe or violates platform rules.

It matters in cyber security because attackers often try to make a malicious destination look harmless long enough to pass this gate. In ad abuse, a link may begin on a trusted search page or a compromised site and only reveal the final landing page after one or more redirects. Defenders use moderation screening to block phishing, malware delivery, and scam ads, but it can be bypassed when each hop appears benign in isolation. Strong screening therefore needs path analysis, redirect tracing, and reputation checks across the full chain, not just the visible starting URL.
