Mobility simulation

the use of data and models to estimate how people and vehicles move.

Mobility simulation is the use of data and models to estimate how people and vehicles move through a place over time. In urban digital twins, it turns traffic counts, sensor feeds, timetable data, and operator signals into a working picture of flows, delays, demand, and route choice. Unlike a static map, a mobility simulation tries to capture behavior as it changes during the day.

In cyber security, this matters because the model is only as trustworthy as its inputs and assumptions. If an attacker tampers with operational data, the simulation can be skewed, leading to bad planning or misleading operational decisions. Mobility data can also expose sensitive patterns about commuters, fleets, and critical services. Defenses include strong access control, authenticated data feeds, integrity checks, anomaly detection, and privacy controls such as aggregation and minimization. Good governance keeps the simulation useful without turning it into a target for data poisoning or surveillance.
