Mobile banking is the use of a smartphone app to manage a bank account and carry out financial tasks such as checking balances, transferring money, paying bills, or approving transactions. In cyber security, it matters because the phone becomes both the access device and a trusted channel for sensitive operations. That makes the app, the device, and the login process part of the attack surface.
Real-world threats include phishing that steals banking credentials, malware that overlays fake screens or intercepts one-time codes, SIM swapping that helps attackers capture SMS verification, and device compromise that exposes session tokens or biometrics. Defenders reduce risk with strong authentication, device binding, transaction signing, encryption, jailbreak/root detection, and fraud monitoring. For users, keeping the phone updated, using app-based or hardware-backed authentication, and verifying payment details before approval are key protections.
