Methodological integration

how well a technology fits teaching methods and lesson design.

Methodological integration is the degree to which a technology fits the teaching methods, lesson structure, and classroom workflow it is meant to support. A tool can be technically available and still be a poor match if it forces teachers to change their lesson design in impractical ways or adds steps that do not improve learning.

This concept matters in education technology because adoption alone does not prove value. Good integration means the tool supports instruction naturally: it aligns with pedagogy, works with assessment goals, and is usable by teachers at the point of delivery. In real deployments, weak methodological integration often shows up as low classroom use, workarounds, or features that are logged in but not meaningfully used. Strong integration, by contrast, helps technology become part of the teaching process rather than a separate activity.
