Memory expansion

A hardware addition that increases the amount of available RAM.

Memory expansion is a hardware addition that increases the amount of available RAM. In practical terms, it gives a system more working space for running programs, loading data, and handling concurrent tasks. In security work, that matters because RAM limits affect how much monitoring, analysis, or application logic a device can support. On small or older systems, a lack of memory can force software to fail, slow down, or skip security features.

In real attacks, memory limits are often part of the target. Malware may avoid heavy payloads on low-memory machines, while denial-of-service techniques can try to exhaust RAM and make services unstable. Defenders use memory expansion to keep endpoint agents, sandboxes, log collectors, and forensic tools running reliably. On legacy hardware, adding RAM can also extend the life of a platform, but it must be done carefully so the system remains stable and compatible.
