MapLibre GL JS

An open-source JavaScript library for rendering interactive web maps.

MapLibre GL JS is an open-source JavaScript library for rendering interactive web maps in the browser. It handles map tiles, controls, markers, and UI elements such as attribution or credit text, giving developers a fast way to embed rich mapping features into web applications.

From a security perspective, any library that renders content into the DOM becomes part of the browser attack surface. If a map application accepts untrusted metadata, labels, or attribution strings and inserts them as HTML, a sanitization mistake can lead to cross-site scripting. That matters because injected script runs in the site’s origin, where it may steal data, alter the page, or trigger actions on behalf of the user. Defenders should treat map credits and other displayed metadata as untrusted input, prefer text rendering over raw HTML, and keep the library updated so browser-side sanitization fixes are applied.
