Managed Detection and Response (MDR)

A security service model that combines continuous monitoring, threat hunting, and incident response support.

Managed Detection and Response (MDR) is a security service model that combines continuous monitoring, threat hunting, and guided incident response. Instead of relying only on internal staff and tools, an MDR provider watches telemetry from endpoints, identities, networks, and cloud systems, then helps investigate suspicious activity and contain it. MDR matters because modern attacks move quickly, and many defenders do not have the time or expertise to monitor alerts around the clock.

In practice, MDR is often used to improve visibility and response in complex environments such as enterprise IT and industrial OT networks. A good MDR program can correlate signs of credential theft, lateral movement, or remote access abuse and escalate only the events that need action. In defense, it supports faster triage, hunting for hidden persistence, and coordinated containment. In attacks, it can reveal early-stage intrusion before malware spreads or a compromised account reaches critical systems.
