A live conversation is an ongoing exchange in which a request, reply, or decision is still happening in real time. In security terms, that matters because the message can still be challenged, redirected, delayed, or stopped before a harmful action is completed. Unlike a static email or archived chat, a live interaction gives defenders a narrow window to intervene while the user is still talking, clicking, or approving.
Attackers often rely on speed and pressure during live social engineering, such as urgent calls, chat messages, or back-and-forth requests for credentials, payments, or access. Defenses that focus on live conversation try to detect warning signs while the exchange is active, not after the damage is done. This can include prompts for verification, real-time monitoring, or escalation to a human reviewer when a request looks unusual. The value is timing: catching manipulation before trust turns into action.
