Listing integrity

The degree to which a product page accurately describes the item being sold.

Listing integrity is the degree to which a product page accurately describes the item being sold. It includes the product name, photos, specifications, condition, accessories, and any claims that influence a buyer’s decision. High listing integrity means the page matches the real item; low integrity means the listing is misleading, incomplete, or altered in a way that changes what the buyer expects.

In cyber security, listing integrity matters because online marketplaces depend on trusted content. Attackers and dishonest sellers can use stolen images, edited photos, synthetic media, or hidden text changes to make an item look more valuable, genuine, or complete than it is. That is a form of content spoofing: the page appears legitimate while the underlying offer is deceptive. Defenses include provenance checks, metadata review, human moderation, image comparison, seller history analysis, and audit trails for edits. These controls help platforms detect tampering, reduce fraud, and keep product pages aligned with the shipped item.
