Kirigami

a paper-cutting variation of origami that starts with a sheet of paper and allows cutting to create functional designs.

Kirigami is a paper-cutting variation of origami. It starts with a flat sheet and uses deliberate cuts, together with folding, to create shapes that can expand, flex, or support a function. The key idea is that removing material in a planned pattern changes how the sheet behaves, turning a simple surface into a mechanism or structure.

In cyber security, kirigami matters mainly in hardware and device design. Cut-pattern structures can be used in flexible sensors, wearable security devices, antenna layouts, and tamper-evident components where motion or deformation needs to be detected. Attackers may try to defeat these mechanisms by tearing, flattening, or bypassing the patterned material, while defenders use the same geometry to make access attempts more visible or to improve the resilience of compact devices. The lesson is practical: small changes in structure can strongly affect how secure and reliable a physical system is.
