Keyboard input

Text or commands sent by a user to control a system.

Keyboard input is text or commands a user types to control a system. In cyber security, it is one of the most sensitive control paths because it can create, change, or destroy access, run administrative tools, and trigger recovery actions. Unlike mouse clicks or passive viewing, typed commands can have immediate, high-impact effects.

Attackers often abuse keyboard input through remote shells, stolen credentials, or malicious scripts that imitate a trusted operator. Defenders care about it for the same reason: typed input should be authenticated, authorized, and logged. In remote administration, a keyboard-only console can be useful for maintenance, but without video feedback it becomes easier to mistype a command or miss an unexpected system state. Secure workflows therefore pair keyboard input with strong access controls, command auditing, and careful operator verification.
