Hybrid team

A workgroup made up of people and automated systems working together.

A hybrid team is a workgroup made up of people and automated systems, such as AI agents, bots, or decision-support tools, that share parts of the same workflow. In cyber security, hybrid teams are common in SOC operations, fraud review, phishing triage, and incident response, where automation can sort alerts, summarize logs, or suggest actions while humans make the final call.

This matters because automation changes both speed and risk. A well-designed hybrid team improves detection and response, but weak oversight can let machine output become accepted without review. Attackers can exploit that by feeding misleading data, triggering alert fatigue, or targeting processes that rely too heavily on automated decisions. Defenders reduce this risk with human-in-the-loop controls, clear delegation rules, validation of AI output, and limits on what automated systems can approve on their own.
