HTML export path

The application flow that turns content into HTML files for viewing or archiving.

The HTML export path is the application workflow that converts internal content into HTML files for viewing, sharing, or archiving. It may rewrite links, preserve formatting, embed metadata, and package images or attachments into a browser-readable document.

This matters in cyber security because HTML is active content, not plain text. If untrusted input is exported without proper sanitization, attacker-controlled tags, scripts, or event handlers can survive into the file and execute when someone opens it in a browser or previewer. Defenders treat export pipelines as an attack surface: encode special characters, strip script-capable elements, and verify how archived files are handled. Reviewing the export path helps prevent stored XSS, malicious documents, and risky legacy files.
