An HR platform is software used to manage employee records, onboarding and offboarding, job changes, payroll-related data, and other personnel workflows. Because it stores personal information and helps drive account lifecycle actions, it often sits close to an organization’s identity systems and access controls.
In cyber security, that makes an HR platform more than a filing cabinet. If attackers compromise it, they may gain sensitive employee data, learn who has access to critical systems, or manipulate workflows that grant and revoke privileges. Defenders treat these platforms as high-value assets by enforcing least privilege, multi-factor authentication, patching, strong logging, and fast offboarding. In real attacks, HR systems are often targeted for data theft, impersonation, or as a path to broader identity abuse.
