Hosted deployment

A vendor-managed software instance operated on the provider’s infrastructure.

A hosted deployment is a software instance that runs on the vendor’s infrastructure and is operated by the provider rather than by the customer. The vendor manages the servers, platform updates, and often the patch rollout, while the customer uses the service through a network connection. This model is common for enterprise applications that need centralized maintenance and predictable uptime.

In cyber security, hosted deployment changes both risk and response. Because the provider controls the environment, defenders may receive fixes faster and with less local administration. However, customers still need accurate asset inventories, access controls, and configuration review, because exposed accounts, weak integrations, or misused permissions can still be attacked. For vulnerability management, the key question is who is responsible for testing, approving, and applying a fix. In a hosted service, that window is usually shorter than in self-managed software, but exposure remains until the vendor’s remediation is fully deployed.
