Hide Infrastructure

A technique for concealing malicious servers or endpoints inside ordinary-looking or noisy web properties.

Hide Infrastructure is an attacker technique for concealing malicious servers, domains, or endpoints inside ordinary-looking or noisy web properties. Instead of using an obviously suspicious host, operators place command-and-control or other malicious services behind websites that seem routine, low-value, or hard to review quickly.

This matters because defenders often triage traffic by reputation and category. If malicious activity is mixed with common web browsing, it can blend into HTTP or HTTPS noise and avoid fast detection. In real attacks, this may involve hosting control pages on compromised sites, using benign-looking domains as redirects, or placing malware infrastructure on topics that security teams are likely to deprioritize. Defenders counter it by correlating DNS, proxy, and endpoint telemetry, watching for repeated beacons, unusual user agents, rare destinations, and connections initiated by non-browser processes. Behavioral analysis is often more effective than simple domain filtering.
