Hidden vulnerabilities are security flaws that are not obvious in a quick scan, checklist review, or basic automated test. They often sit in business logic, edge cases, chained permissions, misconfigured integrations, or AI workflows where the risky behavior only appears under specific inputs or conditions.
They matter because attackers actively look for what surface-level defenses miss. A system may pass standard scanning yet still expose weak prompt handling, unsafe tool execution, brittle assumptions between services, or an error path that leaks data. In real assessments, hidden vulnerabilities are usually found through manual probing, threat modeling, and careful validation of how components interact. For defenders, the lesson is to test beyond signatures and static findings: exercise unusual states, review trust boundaries, and verify how AI agents, APIs, and human workflows behave when pushed off script.
