GridFS

A MongoDB specification for storing large files by splitting them into chunks.

GridFS is a MongoDB specification for storing large files by splitting them into smaller chunks and saving those chunks as documents. This lets applications handle files that are too large for a single BSON document while still using MongoDB for retrieval, indexing, and access control.

In cyber security, GridFS matters because it expands the application surface around a database. Attackers may target file-upload, download, or parsing logic that uses GridFS to trigger crashes, memory pressure, or denial-of-service conditions, especially if the driver or application mishandles malformed data. Defenders need to test GridFS paths carefully, validate file metadata, and keep MongoDB drivers and related libraries patched, because vulnerabilities in client code can affect availability even when the database server itself is healthy.
