A Global CISO, or Chief Information Security Officer, is the senior executive who sets security strategy across multiple regions, subsidiaries, or business units. Unlike a local security manager, this role aligns policy, risk decisions, and incident response so that one organization follows a consistent security model even when its systems, laws, and teams differ.
This matters because modern attacks rarely stay inside one environment. Phishing, identity abuse, cloud misconfiguration, and software supply-chain risks often spread across shared services and international operations. A Global CISO coordinates controls such as identity governance, logging, third-party oversight, and response playbooks, then balances them against business needs. In defense, the role is less about hands-on tooling and more about making sure technical teams, legal teams, and executives act on the same risk picture.
