GeoTools

A Java library used by GeoServer for geospatial processing, including filter handling and query translation.

GeoTools is a Java library for geospatial data processing. In platforms such as GeoServer, it helps interpret map and feature queries, handle filters such as CQL, and translate those requests into backend database operations. That makes it a core part of the path from a user-facing search or map request to real data access.

From a security perspective, this translation layer matters because any flaw in parsing or query construction can become an injection point. If untrusted input is turned into SQL without strict controls, attackers may read or alter database data and, in badly privileged setups, may push the impact further. Defenders should treat GeoTools-backed query handling as part of the attack surface, validate filter input carefully, keep components patched, and apply least-privilege database roles so a malformed query cannot do more than intended.
