Free preview model

A model made available for early testing rather than fully established production use.

A free preview model is an AI model released for early testing before it is treated as a stable production service. It may be useful for evaluation, benchmarking, or limited experimentation, but its behavior, safety controls, documentation, and support commitments are often incomplete. A preview label does not confirm strong governance, secure data handling, or long-term availability.

In cyber security, the distinction matters because preview models can be risky in code generation, agentic workflows, and automation tools. Attackers may exploit weak review processes by pushing unsafe code suggestions, prompting sensitive data exposure, or abusing unknown model behavior in chained tasks. Defenders should treat such models as untrusted until provenance, retention rules, access controls, and safety limits are clear. Common controls include sandboxing, least-privilege permissions, approval gates for actions, and blocking secrets from prompts and outputs.
