A file-sharing link is a web address that gives users access to files hosted on a service. Depending on the service’s settings, anyone with the link may be able to download the files, sometimes with an added password or an access deadline. Attackers can use these links to stage or distribute data they claim to have stolen.
In cyber security, a link is a delivery mechanism, not proof that a breach occurred or that the files are authentic. Defenders should avoid opening suspicious links on ordinary work devices, preserve relevant messages and logs, and verify claims through trusted channels. Organizations can also review sharing permissions, monitor for exposed credentials or data, and warn affected people if leaked material is confirmed.
