Feature set

The collection of functions included in a product or subscription plan.

A feature set is the collection of functions included in a product or subscription plan. In cybersecurity, it defines what a tool can actually do: malware detection, phishing blocking, firewall controls, password management, device monitoring, identity alerts, or data cleanup. The label on the box matters less than the functions behind it.

Feature sets matter because defenders must match controls to risk. A cheap antivirus plan may protect against basic malware but omit ransomware rollback, browser protection, or multi-device coverage. Attackers exploit those gaps by using phishing, malicious downloads, or account takeovers that slip past narrow tools. Security buyers compare feature sets to avoid paying for extras they do not need while making sure the most important protection is included.
