Fargate is AWS’s managed container runtime for running containers without managing the underlying servers. AWS controls the host OS and kernel, so customers deploy tasks and containers but do not get direct host access for tools such as eBPF, kernel modules, or low-level agents.
That design matters in cyber security because it reduces operational burden and removes some host-hardening work, but it also narrows visibility. Defenders may lose kernel-level telemetry that helps detect suspicious processes, unusual network flows, or container escape attempts. In practice, teams on Fargate rely more on IAM controls, image scanning, application logs, CloudTrail, VPC flow logs, and task metadata to investigate abuse. Attackers may still target misconfigured task roles, exposed services, vulnerable container images, or stolen credentials, so strong identity and network controls remain essential even when the host is hidden.
