Extradition request

a formal legal demand for one country to transfer a person to another jurisdiction.

An extradition request is a formal legal demand from one country asking another jurisdiction to surrender a person for prosecution, trial, or punishment. It is not a technical cyber term by itself, but it becomes important when cybercrime crosses borders and investigators need custody of a suspect located abroad.

In cyber security cases, extradition requests often follow allegations of ransomware, fraud, botnet control, or data theft. They can turn an investigation into a high-stakes identity and evidence problem: authorities must match the right person to the right records, and the supporting material must be strong enough to survive legal review. For defenders and investigators, this means preserving logs, tracing accounts carefully, and avoiding single-identifier assumptions when attribution may lead to arrest or transfer between countries.
