Extension storage

Data kept by a browser extension, sometimes separate from normal browsing data.

Extension storage is the data a browser extension saves locally or in a browser-managed store. It can hold settings, tokens, cached state, wallet metadata, and other small secrets. In some browsers, this storage is separate from ordinary browsing data such as history or cookies, which means a tool that only checks the main profile may miss it.

In cyber security, extension storage matters because infostealers and browser-focused malware often look for extension files to recover session data or wallet-related artifacts. If an attacker can read the profile directory or related local databases, they may extract information that helps bypass logins or access accounts elsewhere. Defenders should treat extension storage as sensitive, monitor unusual access to browser profile files, and review which extensions are installed and what permissions they have.
